Rev. Carmella Jones
Member, Clergy Team
Rev. Carmella Jones, a native of Flint, Michigan, is a registered nurse and clergy woman ordained by American Baptist Churches. She serves as the director of the Faith Community Nurse Program at Holy Cross Health, in Silver Spring, Maryland and is on the clergy team at University Baptist Church. Carmella earned a Bachelor of Nursing from Saginaw Valley State University in 1981, a Master of Arts in Community Health and Wellness Promotion from Trinity College in 1997, and a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in 2012.
Carmella is passionate about intentional care of the spirit and teaching others to steward the gift of health and wholeness. In her role as a teacher and pastoral leader, Carmella is both humbled and blessed to be able to offer her gift of nursing in service to God and the church. She approaches the nursing and pastoral care ministries with creative inspiration, wisdom and joy. In her current position at Holy Cross Health, she works with registered nurses to develop a health ministry and faith community nursing practice as a caring ministry that offers hope and healing, even in the absence of a cure.
In addition to teaching and preaching, she enjoys reading, theater, traveling, gardening, and family gatherings.

Kenny Swift has been with University Baptist Church for 15 years, during which time he attended the Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. He earned a Masters of Divinity in 2015. He works for Catholic Charities Archdioceses of Washington in an administrative assistant role with the Dorothy Day Mens and Women's Program. Prior to going into ministry work Kenny worked for many years for Radio Free Asia and other local radio stations in an audio-production role. In his free time Kenny can be found supporting the Washington Redskins and other local sports teams.
